Markham thanks Robert for the invitation yto the unvailing of the Edagr Allan Poe Statute . Markham is writing an into to the ten volume collection of his writings. Markham's manuscript was framed by the Browning Society and hang on the wall at the Poe's Cottage in Fordham. He was also happy to hear that Robert read at the Mary Fisher Benefit.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899).
